At Sutter Davis Hospital, we consider it a privilege as well as a responsibility to make sure that every patient has a very good experience with our organization, which we know may sometimes unexpectedly begin in the emergency room.
The commitment we have to our patients is to provide excellent service with complete attention to their urgent health care needs. Our Emergency Department (ED) is staffed 24-hours-a-day with a team of health care professionals experienced in caring for patients with a variety of medical and surgical emergencies. We combine technology with compassion to treat nearly 2000 patients each month.
Our ED serves the areas of Davis, Woodland, Dixon, Winters, West Sacramento, and the rural areas surrounding those communities. Patients that come to the Emergency Department have convenient access to Sutter West Medical Group and Sutter Davis Hospital services, including lab, advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities, surgery, intensive care and eICU.
Triage
Triage is the beginning of your medical treatment. A registered nurse will ask you about your injury/illness and your medical history and will perform a brief exam. Triage helps to ensure that patients with the most serious needs are treated right away. This is why someone who arrives after you may be treated before you. We recognize that your illness or injury concerns you, and we promise to listen to your concerns and see you as quickly as we can.
Tests
After evaluation by our attending physician or nurse, it may be appropriate to start an IV, obtain a blood or urine sample, or send you for an x-ray. We will make every effort to ensure your stay with us is comfortable and any needed tests are completed in a timely matter. We will do our best to keep you informed of your care, and we welcome your questions at any time.
Hospitalists
If your medical condition requires admission to Sutter Davis Hospital, a hospitalist physician (a physician who specializes in hospital care) will coordinate your care. Each hospitalist works as a member of the team to ensure you receive prompt, high quality continuity of care and maintains communication with your personal primary care physician.
Discharge
When you are discharged from the ED, you will be given complete written home care instructions. It is very important that you understand and follow these instructions and take all medications as prescribed. If you have questions, please ask us – we want to make certain you are comfortable with your discharge plan.
Most importantly, be sure to follow up with your personal physician or the physician to whom you are referred.
Visitors
The patient care rooms in the ED have limited space; however, we know how important it is for you to have someone you know with you. During high volume periods in the ED, it may be necessary to restrict the number of visitors accompanying you into the treatment area. This is necessary to maintain the safety, confidentiality and privacy of all patients. If you or your visitor has any questions or concerns, please ask any of our Emergency Department staff for assistance.
